COACHES CORNER

Manager, Assistant Coach, and Team Mom Selection Process

If you are interested in serving as a Little League manager, assistant coach, or team mom, the selection process begins with registering your interest for the current season.

Manager Selection

Prospective managers will be interviewed by the Santa Fe Little League (SFLL) Board of Directors. The number of teams in each division is determined based on player registration. Following this, the Board selects managers for each division.

Assistant Coach and Team Mom Selection

Once managers are assigned, they will choose their assistant coaches and team moms, subject to approval by the Board of Directors. Please note that completing an application does not guarantee a position as a manager, assistant coach, or team mom.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for any team leadership role, all applicants must complete required clinics, courses, and background checks. Even after completing these requirements, positions are not guaranteed, as selection is based on experience, availability, and league needs.

MANAGER, COACH, & TEAM MOM REGISTRATION

Spring Coaching & Team Mom Sign-Up

If you are interested in serving as a manager, assistant coach, or team mom this spring, it is required that you register using the sign-up option below. Only those who complete the registration process will be considered for these roles. Failure to register will make you ineligible to volunteer in these positions.

As part of the sign-up process, you will be asked to complete a background check, which will be sent to your email. Completion of this background check is mandatory to manage, assist with coaching, or serve as a team mom. Failure to complete the background check will prevent you from volunteering in these roles.

Please note that completing the registration, required courses, and background check does not guarantee selection as a manager, coach, or team mom. Assignments are determined based on the number of players registered and the number of teams we are able to form for the Spring Season.

The registration deadline is when the player registration ends, so please sign up as soon as possible to ensure consideration.

Thank you for your willingness to volunteer! Your support is essential to the success of Santa Fe Little League.

REQUIRED MANAGER & COACH CLINIC & SAFETY TRAINING

Coaches & Managers Training Requirements

All managers and coaches are required to attend the annual Coaches and Umpire Clinic prior to the start of practices. The League provides this training every year in February, before schedules are released. Failure to attend the clinic will make you ineligible to coach a team.

In addition, managers and coaches are required to complete the following free online trainings. Completion of these courses is a requirement of Little League International, and failure to complete them will result in ineligibility to manage or coach a team. Please print a copy of your certificate and email it to [email protected]for our records.

Required Online Trainings

1. Diamond Leader Training Course
This course helps ensure that children have a positive, well-rounded experience on and off the field. It provides coaches with an understanding of the impact that mental, social, and emotional well-being has on youth sports. Through interactive scenarios and additional resources, coaches learn how to navigate real-life situations faced in leagues around the world and understand the lasting impact they have on their players.

2. Online Concussion Training
Completed through the CDC Heads Up program, this training educates coaches on concussion recognition, management, and prevention to ensure the safety and well-being of all players.

3. Little League Abuse Awareness Program (AAP)
This course teaches coaches to recognize, prevent, and respond to all forms of abuse, including physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. It is designed to provide volunteers with the knowledge and tools to maintain a safe and supportive environment for all players.

Thank you for completing these trainings and helping us provide a safe, positive, and rewarding experience for every player. We look forward to a great season!

Coaches & Team Mom Code of Conduct

Santa Fe Little League (SFLL) is committed to providing a safe, positive, and fun environment for all players. To maintain this standard, all managers, coaches, and team moms are required to follow the Code of Conduct outlined below.

General Acknowledgment

  1. I acknowledge that Little League is under no obligation to appoint me to a volunteer position, regardless of any previous roles.

  2. I pledge to provide positive support and encouragement to all players in the Santa Fe Little League program by following this Code of Conduct.

Coaching Principles & Behavior

  • Serve as a positive role model for players at all times.

  • Display and instill the principles of good sportsmanship and team play.

  • Conduct myself in a manner that best serves the interests of the players.

  • Provide players with a positive, fun, and developmentally appropriate experience.

  • Ensure all teams, whether winning or losing, demonstrate respect and good sportsmanship.

  • Treat all players, parents, spectators, opposing coaches, league officials, Board members, and umpires with respect.

  • Refrain from aggressive physical contact, profanity, verbal abuse, or obscene gestures.

  • Deliver instruction in a constructive and supportive manner.

  • Never ridicule or demean players, coaches, umpires, parents, or Board members.

  • The Manager (or acting coach) is the only person authorized to initiate discussions with umpires, and must do so in a civil manner. Under no circumstances will a manager or coach yell at or storm the field toward an umpire.

  • Do not tolerate behavior that endangers the health or well-being of a child.

  • Comply with the decisions of league officials and observe all rules, policies, and procedures established by SFLL.

  • Teach the game of baseball to the best of my ability and demonstrate fundamental proficiency in both baseball and first aid. Attend required skill or first aid sessions as mandated by the Board.

  • Accept umpire decisions and understand that verbal abuse or harassment of umpires may result in removal from games or termination from volunteer roles.

  • Show compassion to injured players and applaud positive performance. Avoid heckling, jeering, distracting players, and using profane or obnoxious language.

  • Take responsibility for guests brought to games and ensure they follow League guidelines.

  • Refrain from approaching players or coaches before, during, or immediately after games except to offer congratulations. Questions or concerns should be addressed after the game in a constructive environment.

Participation & Responsibilities

  • Fully participate in League activities, including coaching clinics, safety meetings, fundraisers, and special programs.

  • Treat players, parents, fellow coaches, umpires, scorekeepers, and league officials with respect at all times.

  • Set a good example on and off the field and build confidence in players.

  • Demonstrate positive conflict-resolution methods.

  • Take responsibility for all League equipment entrusted to my team and ensure it is returned by season’s end or at scheduled drop-off.

  • Act in the best interests of the League and be a team player.

  • Be knowledgeable of and follow all Little League rules, including Local Rules.

  • Assist in field preparation (setting up and putting away bases, etc.) and cleanup.

  • Prohibit parents or others from assuming a coaching role during League events without prior SFLL approval.

Acknowledgment of Compliance

I understand the conditions listed above and agree to comply with the Santa Fe Little League Manager/Coach/Team Mom Code of Conduct. Failure to comply may result in being called before the Board of Directors, and possible suspension or termination from participation in games, league functions, or volunteer positions.

If accepted for a manager position, I further agree to abide by the SFLL philosophies, complete the JDP Background Check, attend all mandatory coaches’ clinics, participate in workdays, and follow all rules and regulations set forth by the Santa Fe Little League Board of Directors.
